Highlights from Safer Neighbourhood Board Public Meeting 29/11/18

Updated: Nov 30, 2018

Good evening

Tonight we attended the Safer Neighbourhood Board Public Meeting with Simon Dobinson Borough Commander giving us an enlightening talk about how Greenwich is doing.

Burglary is a very high problem and the police want us to be more proactive in prevention

There have been many operations targeting burglary over the past few months with hotspots identified and suspects detained. Although this is happening it is still essential for us to remain vigilant and proactive and to encourage our members to be active.

Domestic Abuse is a massive problem, with Greenwich having one of the highest figures in the MET. It also the fact that people are reporting it more. Have a look at the toolkits on www.ourwatch.org.uk which have a section about this and provided valuable resources for your information.

Knife Crime and violent crime, we have had a lot of high profile incidents over the past few months. But you’d be pleased to know we are not the highest in the MET. Woolwich Riverside was also highlighted as an area of concern with knives, however recent task force interventions have been very rewarding and arrest have been made.

The importance of community and intelligence building and working smarter was also indicated. Thus Neighbourhood Watch has a huge role to play.
