What an amazing AGM

Good evening.

Today we held our first AGM as Greenwich Neighbourhood Watch Network .

We are officially now independent and today we said thank you to Safer Greenwich for their support over the last few years.

Thanks go to TSB for attending the conference to present us with the laptops for our Tea and Tech project.

Our speakers were excellent, inspector Alan Cooley the Inspector for Neighbourhood for Greenwich Borough, gave a great account of where the borough is in terms of policing our communities.

Tina Gibbons from RBG Trading Standards gave us some excellent tips on how to prevent scams. If anyone would like to have Tina come along and give your schemes a talk about scams and internet scams then please contact her via email. Tina.gibbons@royalgreenwich.gov.uk

Daniel Carberry from RBG Community Safety team gave an impassioned talk about the role of Community Safety and about the work that he has led in terms of dealing with the sensitive issue of street begging and homelessness especially in the town centres and I am sure that everyone that was there today really appreciated the hard work that Daniel and his team have done and in particular the way that he respects the fears and trauma that these people have to deal with.

Eileen Glover, Chair of Safer Greenwich, gave a fond farewell to Neighbourhood Watch, after taking on the task a few years ago. She also announced approval of some funding for projects that she has applied for on our behalf, which is amazing and thank you for her support.

Kathleen Cunningham from National Neighbourhood Watch Network gave a great presentation on what the national team are doing and that it is just as simple as knowing your neighbour, being neighbourly and being ACTIVE in your community.

We also had Jenny Penn from Eaglesfield Park NWS who gave an excellent account of how her scheme works.

Baljinder Dhesi from Charlton Central talked about how their scheme set up No Cold Calling zones and do pop up events to highlight problem areas.

At our AGM Graham Penn and Pinal Patel stepped down from the committee due to other commitments. Amazingly we now have from a committee of 3 to a fantastic 11.

This is so encouraging.

Again thank you all for your support.

You all do amazing work in your communities.

Now the hard work begins. We have pledged to increase our membership by 50%.

Please get your members signed up as members via the www.ourwatch.org.uk website.

So they search for your Scheme via postcode search and then join your Scheme as a member. This is so that they can benefit from all the benefits of being a member of NHW.

Thank you
